I wanted to make a little guide about mushing and how to accurately portray it in art and literature. So here you go! Part 1. Next parts coming soon... maybe.

As many of you know, I'm a total nerd for mushing. I've done way too much research on the topic because it just fascinates me.

Oh yeah, and that Alaskan Husky is supposed to be Happy from SP Kennels, Aliy Zirkle and Allen Moore's dog. She's so adorable. Check em out here: [link] they're pretty much my favorite mushers.

I appreciate feedback!

FINALLY!!! Someone else who knows what's what about sled-dogs!

Very educational and informative. Glad you posted this. I am often frustrated with people who argue about what a seld dog -really- is when really they don't know much. You however definitely know your shi#t.

Bravo!

haha thank you! Yeah this is from many years of research and 2 years of experience, I was very surprised to learn that there are SO MANY misconceptions about this sport. Literally, people ask the same questions all the time and the answer is always "no" haha cx

People really need this. I have several Euros and Alaskans, as well as one Siberian, and people always just call them huskies. It's nice to see this out!

I feel the same way! Thanks I'm glad you appreciate it c:
Yeah it kind of irks me that people think siberian huskies are the only huskies and therefore the only animals that are capable of dog sledding.
Even to the point that people ask me if my Australian Shepherds are Huskies when they see me bikejoring! Haha.

Same here. I'll tell people I have sled dogs and they say something akin to 'like the ones in Snow Dogs?' Ugh. No. People. Disney sled dogs do not equal real sled dogs. People do mush with siberians, but sprinters usually have Alaskans or euros.
And, lol. I have an Aussie mix and people will ask if she's part husky because she has blue eyes. Better than when people asked if one of my siberians was a wolf.

oh gosh. *facepalm*

haha aww cute cx My aussies are black tricolors, so I don't really see how people think they're huskies cx Haha I always laugh when people think siberians look so much like wolves. It's like... yeah, that chunky smiling ball of fur look EXACTLY like a wolf wow you're right!

Mines a red merle, so I have absolutely no idea either.
Ohhhh, yes. I've had plenty of people who walk by my siberian, turn around, and whisper something like 'wow, that's one of those wolf-dogs'. Yep. The curled tail and blue eyes and fluffiness TOTALLY gave it away. Thanks for reminding me. CX

This is extremely informative! Mushing, I agree, is fascinating. I love learning about what different "pulling" breeds have to attribute to a team. Such as, if their build makes them a better swing dog, or a better wheel dog. etc.

I'm so glad you feel that way! c: Mushing is amazing.

I've learned that positioning the dogs in a team depends more on personality than build actually. Which I thought was interesting.
