I saw the movie yesterday and it was absolutely positively indescribably transcendingly unbelievably incredible. I still have the giddy feeling that I had when I left the theater, I couldn't have asked for more from the sequel of my favorite movie of all time.
I started this painting a few days ago and finished it after I saw the movie last night. I realize that I drew his sword and Toothless's saddle wrong since I got a better look at them in the movie but oh well. I could have fixed the sword but I kind of really wanted to draw a viking broadsword.

These movies mean so much to me. I saw the first movie the day it came out because my grandpa agreed to take me to the movies after I helped him with yardwork, I suggested we see How to Train Your Dragon because one of my favorite musicians, Jonsi, wrote a song for the credits. And that was the day I saw my favorite movie for the first time. It was the movie that made me realize that experiencing stories is not so much about the plot, or the visuals (which were nothing short of amazing in the first place), but about character relationships (at least for me). The relationship between Toothless and Hiccup reminded me so much of my own relationship with my animal friends (and some human friends), and Hiccup in all honestly reminded me a lot of myself (same age too, even when I saw the first one). During the movie I could only think of how much my grandma would have loved it if she were alive to see it. She was a bit of an animation connoisseur, she also loved cute imaginative movies and was Norwegian.
The second movie did not disappoint me one bit. Seeing my favorite characters mature from one movie to another in such a way is something I've never experienced before and I really enjoyed it. This movie is bold, brave, and worth seeing one hundred times over (same goes for the first one too, if you haven't seen it yet). And Jonsi made another song for the sequel which was an added bonus.
